Arena of Death ~ Colosseum

One of the largest venue of the pre-modern age, the Colosseum opened in 80 A.D. attracted 5,500 spectators to watch the games of hell.

I’m now in the ‘Arena of Death’, a place which has been estimated to have about 500,000 people and over a million wild animals died in the games. It’s the biggest and most imposing, probably the most horrifying building in the Roman world, Colosseum.

When it opened in A.D. 80, the emperor’s son, Titus, put on a series of games that lasted for 100 days straight.

Can you imagine the emperors entertained the public in the Colosseum with the battle to the death between animals and gladiators or between gladiators just to show the prestige and power they had?

Games were usually held for a whole day or even several days in a row. These unlucky fighters were usually slaves, prisoners of war or condemned criminals.

Don’t know which genius’s finger on my picture -_-”
Look at the crowd, crowds are really everywhere in Rome.

In the eighth century, Saint Bede said of the Colosseum, a symbol of Rome with 800 years behind it, that “as long as the Colossus stands, so shall Rome; when the Colossus falls, Rome shall fall; when Rome falls, so falls the world.Fortunately the Colosseum is still standing.

The ‘modern gladiators’ are guarding at the gate.
Actually I don’t know what are they doing there.

It’s a typical tourism city, everything needs to pay. We need to pay for riding the horse, and we need to pay for the entrance fee to the Colosseum also. Did I mention that we need to pay Euro 0.50 to use the public toilets in Italy? Euro 0.50 = RM2.32!! For each time you visit their toilets!! Especially when it’s inevitable that we have to use the toilet regularly during travel.

Access Fee to the Colosseum:
Tickets: Euro 4.48
Discount: For U.E. citizens, under 18 or over 65 years old or teachers.

The Ruins of Ancient Rome – Roman Forum

The Roman Forum is situated in the area between Piazza Venezia and the Colosseum, is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world.

Ancient Ruins

The Roman Forum (Forum Romanum, although the Romans referred to it more often as the Forum Magnum or just the Forum) was the central area around which ancient Rome developed, in which commerce, business, prostitution, cult and the administration of justice took place.

Modern Day Gladiator

The 21st century gladiators have no one and no beast to fight to, so they are now being ‘ambassador of goodwill’ instructing the traffics and assisting the tourists/drivers. Imagine if they are fighting hippopotamuses, rhinoceros, barbary lions, panthers, or alligators now, I wouldn’t want to watch it. I watched SAW I, II, III, and IV ALONE (c0z no one else want to watch it -_-”), I can take bloody and cruel movies but definitely not when seeing humans being mauled alive in real life.

Modern Day Gladiator

Talk about the movie SAW, I wonder why would I want to watch such a disgusting and inhuman movie, finished 4 episodes somemore. And I watched them all alone. A bit crazy man, as if I have nothing better to watch in life.

This mini bus super mini huh?
