Bali ~ Funeral Ceremony ~

We stumbled upon a very big parade at Kuta with lively music playing along the parade. We thought must be some kind of celebration so I immediately took a video of it. My boyfriend asked the local people what ceremony was that then only we were told that it was a funeral ceremony. I quickly stop shooting the video but their local people told us that it was fine to take the video or photos. The parade was so long that it took about 5 minutes for the whole parade to go past us. Nobody looked upset and they were all wearing colorful traditional costumes with lively music that there was no way to tell that it was a funeral ceremony.

Can you spot the coffin? We couldn’t tell at all where their coffin was.

After coming back to Malaysia, I did some research about funeral in Bali and found this information from
BaliBlog:

“The Balinese cremation is always one of happiness and because their religion is based upon respect for and worship of God and ancestors, the Balinese believe that death itself is not the end of all matters but instead a new beginning. They celebrate in death and it’s a joyous time. With a cremation ritual the body is dissolved and returned to its original elements. The Balinese believe they must free the soul for its journey into the next life, or existence. It’s an amazing series of events and one as an outsider should witness at least once on their visits to Bali. It is believed that failure to free the soul (roh) will result in the soul becoming a ghost causing havoc amongst the village and that the Balinese fear. It is believed that the soul cannot be freed as long as there is a body thus the destroying of the corpse by the elements of water, fire and earth is essential.”

  9. Rituals, tradition and culture play in integral belonging to Balinese life. Most of Bali follow a 12-month lunar calender and a 210 day ritual cycle, called the pawukon cycle calender.

  10. I think Bali is one of the international destination for tourism, many foreign tourists who come to fill the holiday :)
