Betty Boop shop was quite popular in Universal Studio Singapore. They sell all sort of things like photo frames, shirts, sexy lips pillow, cups, combs, bags, purse, etc. I’m not really a fan of Betty Boop but I still bought a purse for my friend as I remember she bought a Betty Boop sweater in China and it looks good on her.

Betty Boop is regarded as one of the first and most famous sex symbol on the animated screen. But to be honest, Betty Boop does look sexy if you only look at the part below her neck. Above the neck, just a cute babe with disproportionate head. Nonetheless, its merchandises are lovely, all are in red and pink or black with rosy red, very sexy combination.

Very tempted to get myself a comb but I might be over aged using them :-p

So out of curiosity, and since I’m naturally born to be studious, I decided to study about Betty Boop.  You don’t wanna buy something without knowing anything about it, do you?

Here are some fun facts about Betty Boop:

1. Betty Boop’s first cartoon appearance was in the 1930 short, ‘Dizzy Dishes’,

2. Betty Boop was first seen in human form in the 1931 release of ‘Dizzy Red Riding Hood’,

3. Betty Boop has starred in more than 100 cartoons.,

4. While known for cartoons, Betty Boop also appeared in two comic strips, a radio show, and two network animated musical specials,

5. In the 1930s, Betty Boop was criticized for being too sexy,

6. Betty Boop was unique among female cartoon characters because she represented a sexualized woman. Other female cartoon characters of the same period, such as Minnie Mouse, displayed their underwear  regularly, in the style of childish or comical characters, not a fully defined woman’s form.

7. Betty Boop wore short dresses, high heels, a garter, and her breasts were highlighted with a low, contoured bodice that showed cleavage.

8. Today there are 250 companies manufacturing Betty Boop licensed products in the United States and nearly as many abroad.

9. Betty Boop appeared in her underwear In ‘Silly Scandals’ (1931) and ‘Poor Cinderella’ (1934), more than three decades before Madonna was even born.

10. Long before Marilyn Monroe’s dress was blowing in the wind. Betty Boop’s dress made this statement in ‘Betty Boop’s Ups and Downs’ (1932),

11. Betty Boop’s popularity is worldwide, including Europe, Asia, and South America,

12. A fragrance called “Betty Boop” was created by Parfums Paris Hollywood,

13. Betty Boop was one of the first cartoons with a sound track,

14. In the Betty Boop comic strip, Betty appeared to be stiff and hardly changed positions. This was in fact because the artist used Photostats of Betty to paste up instead of drawing her,

15. Before Betty Boop was officially named Betty Boop, she was known as Nancy Lee (in ‘Barnacle Bill’),

So now we know why Betty Boop is so famous.

Betty Boop store is in New York themed zone. Oh by the way, her merchandizes are more suitable for adults due to her sexy image. So, you might want to think twice if you wanna buy for kids.
