Along the way from Vientiane to Luang Prabang, the Mekong River had never been out of our sight. It can even be seen from 30,00o feet above, magnificently surrounded by lush green forests and mountains. My eyes had had very good rest for the whole 40 minutes flight to Luang Prabang seeing a stretch of emerald green with a mighty brown river snaking a path through its valleys. I was so amazed of how Luang Prabang, or rather, Laos is densely forested and mountainous. The Mekong River is one of the world’s 10th rivers in its river length and has [...]

How do you like Asian food? I love Malaysian aromatic Nasi Lemak, colorful Ice Kacang, healthy Popiah, yummilicious grilled seafood, irresistible Bak Kut Teh, and another 62 unbeatable specialties that I will list them down next time. I also love Balinese sumptuous Rijsttafel, very crispy crispy duck, distinctive Babi Guling (roasted pig) and utterly flaming hot chili padi. I love Thai super spicy and sour Tom Yam soup, lovely Khao Niao Mamuang (Thai mango with glutinous rice), Thot Man (fried fishcake), Thai Tofu with special sauce, green curry, and many more. My stomach is growling now. I also love Singaporean… [...]

Luang Prabang, Laos ~ Tea + Book under the trees I used to dream about having a very comfortable house, preferably white in color, all white, facing the sea. If the sea is not possible, I will build an artificial waterfall in the garden. I just want the sound of the gentle flow of water, as though I was surrounded by nature. I would then sit on a very cozy couch facing the garden with the brilliant sunshine shining through the window. While indulging myself in the sunshine and the sound of nature, I pamper myself with a good book [...]

After checking in Vayakorn Inn, we immediately accessed their free internet to browse for the places of interest in Vientiane. I bet you won’t be able to guess that the #1, the most popular and recommended place in Vientiane, is no where close to the historical or scenic sites. Rather, it’s in the place where people don’t usually pay attention to. When was the last time you visited handicap house or orphanage? Mine is like few years ago that I don’t really remember the details. It’s sad that we don’t usually pay attention to the less privileged people and solicitous [...]

After a fun night with all sort of flying insects and crawling bugs in Rivertime Resort and Ecolodge, we moved back to Vientiane town and checked into Vayakorn Guesthouse which we had booked online. We read many good reviews about Vayakorn Guesthouse which generally credit the inn’s cleanliness and good service. The key criteria that I look for when choosing a budget guesthouse is always the cleanliness. One of the reviewers actually said that he stayed in Vayakorn Guesthouse with his whole family for 2 weeks and they were happy with it. So I guess we couldn’t go wrong with [...]
