Hi Ellis,

I'm sorry that I didn't get to reply you promptly on your queries pertaining to the Chinese funeral. I haven't logged on to my website for a few months due to the change of my living environment. I'm not sure if you have already had the answer for it. But I'll still answer your queries here. The sack clothes are provided by XIao En Center and in order to snap the photos like what I did, I doubt guests there would allow you to photograph their funerals if you are just a stranger to them. It's not so much of the rules imposed by Xiao En Center, but whether or not the deceased family would allow you to do so.

Let me know if you require further information. And good luck on your thesis!

Cheers,
Shelyn

Thanks for sharing the tradition, more often, roasted pig will not be used to pray if the deceased is young. When the deceased is above 80 years old, the family will sort of celebrate with the pig and make the funeral more relaxing.

Hi Shelyn,
this post really helped me allot.but i do have a few questions though. i am a Malay and im doing a research for my final independent project about Taoist style funeral. Is the sackcloth provided by Xiao En Centre or you would have to go get your own somewhere else? and Would you have to be a family member to take pics like what you did for your post here? .. thank u for the post!
