Getting Away to Gran Canaria

The island, situated in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the coast of Africa, is one of the mostpopulated areas in the Canary Islands. The capital of Gran Canaria is Las Palmas which is also thelocation of the only airport on the island. Gran Canaria is part of Spain and was first brought intothe Spanish empire in 1483 after many years of incursions. Holidays to Gran Canaria bring in over amillion tourists every year and the island is incredible popular.
Located south east of both Fuerteventura and Tenerife, the island is well noted for its microclimates. The south area of the island attracts the most tourists due to the warmer climate, incomparison to the north of the island.
Getting to Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria airport is the only commercial airport on the island. The large number of aircraft andpassengers passing through it each year make it one of the busiest in Spain. Most resorts are only ashort drive from the airport.

There are four main resorts in Gran Grand Canaria, including: Las Plamas, Maspalomas, Playa DelIngles and Puerto Rico. There are several excellent hotels dotted around the island, from luxury villasto budget hotels.
Sightseeing
The climate in the area means that the country has differing landscapes, with a dessert like southand a lush green north. The unusual climate also makes the island a popular winter destination. Thesouth portion of the island is the most popular place for tourists to visit.
The island has several attractions, including a large bird park, a Crocodile park and a botanicalgarden. The capital city, Las Palmas, is well known for its party atmosphere and its annual carnival.As the seventh largest city in Spain, Las Palmas has a lively atmosphere and offers the vivacity seenin any mainland Spanish town or city.
Gran Canaria all inclusive holidays give tourists the opportunity to explore the rugged landscape ofthe island. They can also take part in many of the activities available on the island, including: horseriding, surfing, diving, rock climbing and wind surfing.
