Kayaking Fun in Phuket

It was few years back when I visited Phuket island. Just thought of sharing my most unforgettable ultimate adventure in Phuket ~~ SEA KAYAKING!

The perfect opportunity to explore the limestone caves in Phang Nga Bay is at the noon time when the tide is just right to enter the cave. Needless to say, the only way to enter the caves is by canoeing.

Right after the lunch, we were brought to small canoes led by the local licensed guides with a good local knowledge of the natural history and geography of the area. We were so ready to explore the “hongs”, which is the local word describing the secret world of caves, tunnels and interior lagoons.

These collapsed caverns eroded by natural forces over millions of years revealing a hidden and unique natural environment.

When we reached the cave, we were told that the tide was a bit too high so we had to lie flat to enter it. Look at the narrow crevices! When I first saw it, I thought it was almost impossible to access through those tunnels.

A more close up picture. Ridiculous, isn’t it? You tell me how possible to pass through that narrow crevice.

I kind of freak out :-p. I was freaking worried that my face would get scratched by the stones. Those stones are sharp! Very Sharp!

When it was really impossible to get through the tunnel, the guide released the air from the canoe, and tried to access again. He tried several times until the water came into our canoe due to the air was released and lowered down the canoe. The stones were just right above my face, SO CLOSE to my eyes. I kept telling myself that since that fat guy in front of me could access, the slim girl like me 100% no problem.

And finally!! Hey, NOT ME LAH!! How did I take a picture of myself while lying flat? That was one of the hot chicks in red bikini who is a total stranger to me :-p

But I love this picture.

It was a totally different world inside the cave. It was absolutely quiet and peaceful inside the cave that we almost couldn’t hear anything at all except the occasional splash from a paddle.

That was really nothing much to do or see inside the cave, but it was a very rare and precious opportunity to feel the peace of the world, to listen nothing but the sound of nature.

We exited the cave when the tide was lower. Not so bad, the tour guide didn’t even need to lie down.

We chatted with our operator to find out how many caves they have explored. We were surprised to know that they have so far gained access to almost all hongs in this area. They usually spend few days canoe from one cave after another and spend their nights in different caves. Each hong has its own distinct character, so they just love gliding through one hidden cave after another and that was how we were brought to this cave today.
