Tawau Seafood Paradise

xplI put the title as Tawau Seafood Paradise because the article in The Star newspaper said so, “everyone knows Sabah is a seafood paradise”. So I have to pretend that I know it too.
After we checked out from Sipadan Island, it was too early to go to the air port, so we decided to get our dinner in Tawau. Without knowing where to go, the hotel driver dropped us at the Tawau town where there were few live seafood restaurants.
We had no idea what’s the market price of the seafood so we couldn’t really tell whether the seafood there are cheap. We didn’t know which restaurant to choose also but finally we stopped at Kam Ling Fresh Seafood Restaurant because the boss welcomed us personally and introduced us their seafood. I like this kind of service, especially when the boss said, “come to have a look, you don’t have to immediately decide to eat here, you can come back later.” I really like his service. But I don’t really like it when he said “guaranteed very fresh, still swimming in the tank.” He sounds as if we couldn’t tell the fishes were swimming in the tank or we didn’t know that live seafood means fresh -_-”
We KNOW they are SWIMMING!
It says Mantis Prawn (small), but no matter how I look at them, they’re still way bigger than the mantis prawns that I eat in KL. This is the giant member of the prawn family famous for its ferocity. So fierce and anti-social are the crustaceans they have to be kept apart in the plastic bottles. So sad, they spend their entire lives inside a bottle.
Their claws are particularly vicious and have to be promptly cut off the moment they are fished out of the tank.
But TWO!! Yeah… one is not enough for two of us.
These are the Napoleon Wrasse that I mentioned in my previous Sipadan post! So huge and they are here to be served anytime. Again… How Sad!! Imagine one day ago we were enjoying diving with their families but now we are here to swallow them into our stomach. Human beings are really meant to be devils.
But no lah… we are not eating Napoleon Wrasse, too expensive.
So next, we saw Rock Lobster, selling for only RM8 per 100g. Not so bad, so we ordered Rock Lobster.
Two unlucky ones gonna end their lives on our table.
First, the salt-baked mantis prawns made their entry. The meats are sweeter than that of ordinary prawns. Yet for its size, it’s not tough. But it was quite oily, it tastes more like it was fried instead of baked.
Next, Rock Lobster cooked with chilli. The meats were quite tough, we didn’t really like it. Well, I guess they don’t sell it cheap for no reason.
Steamed snapper. It was steamed in a very light and sweetish soy and fish sauce. It was superb, very fresh. We enjoyed it so much!
After we done with our dinner, we spotted this huge article banner at the exit of the restaurant. We were like “wow… we are so lucky”.
